Palworld Breeding Passive Skills

Direct answer: Passive skills are inherited from the parents when you breed. The species comes from the formula or special combo, but the passives on the hatched Pal come from its parents' passive pools. That is why endgame breeding is mostly about repeating the same pair until the right passives line up on the right species.

How passive inheritance works in practice

Breed a pair and the offspring's passives are drawn from what its parents carry. A passive that neither parent has cannot appear on the child, so the first job is to get the passive onto a parent at all — by catching, or by breeding it in from another Pal that does carry it. Once both parents carry the passives you want, repeated breeding from that pair gives you chances to combine them on one offspring.

This is a numbers game, not a guarantee per egg. One egg can miss a passive you wanted, even from good parents. Breeders who want a specific combination budget many Cakes and many eggs for the same pair, rather than expecting it on the first hatch.

Breeding for passives vs breeding for species

These are two different jobs, and mixing them up wastes Cake. First, get the species: use the calculator to find a pair that gives your target, regardless of passives. Then, once you have the species, breed it with parents that carry the passives you want, or breed two of the same species that each carry part of the combination. Do not try to fix species and passives in the same egg if you can separate the steps.

For breed-true Pals, the second job is the only job after the catch: breed two of the same species, each carrying different passives, and combine them over generations.

What passives cannot fix

Passives cannot change a Pal's species, its element, or its CombiRank. If the species is wrong, the pair is wrong — check the calculator, not the passives. If the species is right but the passives are wrong, the pair is right and you need more eggs, not a new pair.

Frequently asked questions

Can I breed a passive that neither parent has?

No. The passive must be present in at least one parent's pool to appear on the offspring.

How many eggs will a passive combination take?

There is no fixed number. It is a chance per egg, so budget several Cakes for the same pair.

Do passives affect breeding itself?

No. Passives affect combat, work, and movement on the hatched Pal. They do not change which species hatches.
