What the chart actually is
The chart is not a list of pairs. It is a single ranked list: one row per Pal, with its CombiRank. In the 1.0 dataset used here there are 299 Pals, 183 of which are in the formula pool. The other Pals are special-only, breed-true, or cannot enter a Breeding Farm at all, and they never appear as a formula result.
That distinction matters. If you only look at a chart and ignore the formula pool, you can predict a child that the game will never produce from that pair. The calculator filters to the formula pool automatically.
How to read it without a calculator
Find Parent 1's rank and Parent 2's rank, add them, add 1, divide by 2, and round down. That is your target. Then scan the formula pool for the rank closest to the target. That Pal is the child, unless the pair is a special combo, in which case the special result wins.
Worked example, verified in 1.0 data: Penking (2070) + Bushi (1560) gives a target of 1815, and the closest formula-pool Pal is Sibelyx (1810). It is not Anubis, even though older guides say so.
Why a chart alone is not enough
A chart cannot show special combos, gender-dependent pairs, or breed-true exceptions, and it goes stale after a patch. Use the chart to understand the system, and use the calculator's pair list for the exact answer for your Pal. The per-Pal pages on this site show the full pair list for each target, calculated from the same 1.0 data.
Frequently asked questions
Is the breeding chart the same as a combo list?
No. A chart ranks Pals by CombiRank. A combo list gives parent pairs for a target. This site has both: the calculator gives pairs, and this page explains the chart behind it.
Why do two charts disagree?
Usually because one chart is pre-1.0, or because it includes special-only Pals in the formula pool. Check the chart's date and its 1.0 status before trusting it.
Actual CombiRank chart — searchable and sortable
Click a column header to sort. Type to search. The chart is calculated from the live 1.0 dataset: 299 Pals, lowest CombiRank (rarest, top of the chain) first. A lower CombiRank means a rarer, later-game Pal — the formula picks the formula-pool Pal closest to the parents' averaged CombiRank.
