Correction to the earlier version of this page
The earlier version of this page said Cake only enables breeding and does not change passives or IVs, and advised against using different cakes. That was wrong for Palworld 1.0. In 1.0 there are five cakes, and four of them change the result in a different way. The plain Cake is the only one that only enables breeding.
Cake comparison — all five cakes in Palworld 1.0
| Cake | Technology unlock | What it actually does | Use it when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cake | Level 17, Cooking Pot | Enables breeding only. No bonus to passives, IVs, egg count or mutation. | You only need the species, and you are not hunting passives, IVs or mutations. |
| Mushroom Cake | Level 30 | Improves the chance of higher stat talents (IVs) on the offspring. Reported as +1 to +5 IV points on the egg. Does not raise the mutation chance. | You want stronger base stats without paying for the later cakes. |
| Vegetable Cake | Level 47 | Produces two eggs per breeding cycle instead of one, at the normal mutation chance per egg. | Bulk breeding, fodder for condensing, or doubling your number of mutation rolls per cake cycle. |
| Extravagant Vegetable Cake | Level 60 | Raises the mutation chance and improves stat talents. Reported mutation chance rises from about 1% per egg to about 3% per egg. | Mutation hunting. This is the only cake that raises the mutation chance itself. |
| Special Cake | Level 74 | Improves the inheritance of multiple passive skills from both parents. | Serious passive breeding — getting several wanted passives onto one keeper in fewer attempts. |
Rates above are the values reported in current 1.0 guides (about 1% base mutation, about 3% with Extravagant Vegetable Cake). Pocketpair has not published exact official odds, so treat them as reported values, not guarantees. One source reports a higher base rate; the 1% / 3% figures are the most commonly reported pair.
How to choose a cake, by goal
Just the species: plain Cake. Do not spend late-game ingredients on a species you only need once.
More eggs, faster: Vegetable Cake. Two eggs per cycle means twice the chances to roll a wanted passive combination, and twice the mutation rolls — but each egg still rolls at the normal 1% mutation chance.
Better stats: Mushroom Cake early, Extravagant Vegetable Cake later. Both support talent growth; only Extravagant also raises mutation odds.
Mutations: Extravagant Vegetable Cake only. Vegetable Cake gives more eggs but does not raise the per-egg mutation chance.
Passives: Special Cake. Keep the parents' passive pool small — fewer unwanted passives on the parents means the inherited passives are more likely to be the ones you want — and use Special Cake to raise the chance that several of them land on the same offspring.
What has not changed
Cake still goes in the Breeding Farm chest, not in your personal inventory and not in another base chest. One breeding cycle consumes the cake type you stocked. If the chest runs empty, the farm stops producing. The species itself is still decided by the parents and the breeding formula or special combo — a cake never turns one species into another, except through the separate mutation roll described on the mutation page.
